Business Development Manager
Birmingham (Hybrid role)
£50,000 plus commission
Our client is a highly regarded, and hugely respected company with an outstanding reputation for the way it looks after it’s people. Fixing problems for vehicle fleet operators is what they do best, especially for those with a low appetite for risk and who like to make crucial decisions based on data. Due to a new product launched in the telematics space, they have tasked Fleet Recruitment in helping them find a talented Business Development Manager to find pure new business opportunities in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

What’s the role?
In a nutshell, you’ll be tasked with winning new business, selling telematics to UK fleets. There will be current clients to go at, but we are not looking for the kind of salesperson who only picks low hanging fruit. We are looking for a hunter who is unafraid to self-generate opportunities and bring in incremental new clients to the organisation. You will need to:
- Create a sales plan and map out the tactics you will use to get in front of prospective buyers
- Align objectives with buyers by using great consultancy to find pain that you can solve
- Manage your prospect and sales pipeline and provide accurate forecasts
- Manage time effectively
- Achieve agreed and sensible targets that you will have had an opportunity to create (they value your thoughts)
About You
You need to be somebody who is naturally curious. Someone who understand that a robust sales process, led by consultancy, is what builds a value proposition, and not a PowerPoint pitch slapping. We are looking for an experienced fleet solutions provider, not an order taker, who is unafraid to put hard yards into achieving success and who loves the financial rewards that brings. Proven experience selling services into UK fleets at all levels is required, and we can’t accept applications from outside the industry.
What you need to demonstrate:
- Experience of pure new business B2B selling in the fleet market
- A tenacious can-do attitude driven by a powerful WHY
- Great diary and time management
- The acumen required to understand a customers’ problems and challenges and relate those to solutions you can provide
- The ability and discipline manage a sales pipeline
- The discipline to record activity and forecast your business accurately
- The acumen to know when to “do a deal” and when to walk away
- The ability to close business
- Customer management skills that build solid relationships, for the customer, for our client and for you
